General Description

The Training Specialist is a key professional responsible for ensuring all staff are compliant with required training and possess the necessary skills to provide high-quality, compassionate care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). This role involves both administrative oversight of training records and direct instruction. The Training Specialist will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and delivering a variety of training programs, with a primary focus on ensuring staff are well-versed in Incident Reporting, behavioral management (MANDT), CPR/First Aid, and other specialized topics relevant to our medically fragile population. The ideal candidate is a proactive, organized, and skilled communicator with a passion for staff development and ensuring the highest standards of care.

Job Duties

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all staff training inquiries.
  • Monitor and track employee training compliance, ensuring all staff meet DDA and organizational requirements for initial and ongoing training.
  • Maintain an up-to-date training database and record system, including certification expiration dates.
  • Generate and submit regular reports on training compliance to management.
  • Develop and deliver engaging and effective training sessions for a variety of topics.
  • Conduct skills demonstrations and competency evaluations to ensure staff can safely and effectively perform their duties.
  • Stay current on industry best practices, new regulations, and innovative training methods.
  • Customize and update training materials to reflect changes in policy, procedure, or individual needs.
  • Assist in the development and revision of training manuals, guides, and materials.
  • Manage and maintain training equipment and supplies.
  • Provide one-on-one coaching and support to staff who require additional training or guidance.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to identify training needs and gaps in staff knowledge or skills.
  • Serve as a resource for staff on matters related to policy, procedure, and best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) regulations and requirements is essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and learning management systems (LMS) or training databases.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Patient, professional, and approachable demeanor.
  • Passion for teaching and developing others.

Physical Requirements

  • Sufficient physical ability to perform moderate or light lifting and carrying; walking and standing for prolonged periods of time; bending and stooping.
  • Able to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to operate electric or motorized equipment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to demonstrate physical techniques taught in training (e.g., MANDT).

Education, Licenses, & Training

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in healthcare, group home, or IDD setting.
  • Proven experience as a trainer or instructor, with a strong ability to engage adult learners.
  • Current certification as a MANDT Trainer or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire is required.
  • Current certification as a CPR and First Aid Instructor or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire is required.
  • Experience in staff training and development, preferably in the healthcare or social services field.

Shift

  • Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm and flexibility to accommodate individual needs and schedule variations.
