Summary

Sambatek is looking for an experienced and driven Traffic Engineer to support a team delivering high-impact traffic engineering projects. In this role, you’ll lead development of traffic tasks from start to finish while collaborating with a variety of project teams to success.

At Sambatek, we collaborate with County and State clients to deliver ethical, sustainable, and right-sized projects — maximizing the investment of public resources. Expanding into Traffic Engineering is a strategic step in building on the success of our Transportation team, and we’re looking for the right leader to help drive this vision forward.

  • Work Location: Hybrid- flexible to work in office and remotely; local to Minnetonka, MN office
  • Expected Compensation Range: $45.68-51.92 per hour (Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications)
  • Pay Rate Type: Hourly with overtime rate of 1.5x base pay for all hours worked over 40 in a week

Responsibilities

  • Lead traffic tasks in study, preliminary design, and plan development phase
  • Collaborate with internal teams to deliver high-quality work for state and county clients
  • Evaluate traffic projects for freeways, arterial corridors, and intersections, including signals, roundabouts, and other innovative intersection control designs
  • Represent Sambatek at meetings with clients, counties, cities, and other key stakeholders
  • Complete quality reviews, risk management, and resource coordination
  • Mentor, supervise, and train staff
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on traffic/transportation engineering
  • PE in Civil Engineering, up to 10 years of relevant experience (PTOE license preferred)
  • Experience leading traffic projects and/or tasks
  • Ability and desire to effectively lead, mentor, train, coach, and develop team members
  • Driven to exceed expectations, win over clients, and build strong relationships
  • Experience with traffic engineering software such as: HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, Corsim, Rodel, and IHSDM
  • Ability to complete traffic impact analyses (TIA), traffic operation modeling, traffic signal warrant studies, and intersection control evaluations (ICE)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to coordinate public engagement activities
  • Possess critical thinking skills and independent engineering judgement
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local guidance and standards
  • Previous experience delivering within the constraints of scopes, budgets, and schedules

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment
  • Ability to occasionally move equipment/objects weighing up to 10 pounds
