We are seeking a skilled Municipal Attorney with a passion for public service and deep expertise in local government law. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with municipalities across Texas, providing strategic legal counsel on a wide range of complex and high-impact issues including land use, zoning, governance, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as general counsel to cities, villages, towns, and special districts, advising elected officials, administrators, and department heads.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review municipal ordinances, resolutions, development agreements, intergovernmental agreements, and procurement contracts.
  • Represent municipal clients in administrative hearings, circuit court litigation, and appellate proceedings.
  • Provide legal guidance on open meetings, public records, ethics, and statutory compliance under Texas law.
  • Advise on land use planning, zoning code enforcement, conditional use permits, variances, and comprehensive plan implementation.
  • Support clients in navigating state and federal regulatory frameworks, including DNR, DOT, and PSC matters.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting local governments and proactively advise clients on implications.
  • Facilitate public hearings, board meetings, and workshops, often serving as the legal voice in real-time decision-making.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve disputes through negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Texas (or ability to obtain promptly).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in municipal law, land use, or public sector legal practice.
  • Strong legal drafting and analytical skills, with a focus on clarity and precision in public documents.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple client relationships and deliver responsive, solution-oriented counsel.
  • Experience with public finance, redevelopment, or environmental law is a plus.
  • Commitment to professional development and contributing to a positive, team-based culture.
