Job Description

We are seeking a talented Motion Graphics Designer / Editor to join a high-profile visual news team on a contract basis. This hybrid role in NYC blends creativity and storytelling with fast-paced, editorially driven work. You'll collaborate with reporters, editors, designers, and developers to craft compelling motion content—from quick-turn explainers to long-form features—that informs and engages audiences across digital platforms. The ideal candidate is a visual storyteller with strong design sensibility, technical expertise, and a passion for pushing creative boundaries within a newsroom setting. This is a 5-month contract opportunity, hybrid in NYC-Midtown area, 40 hours weekly. 

Responsibilities:

• Design and produce high-quality motion graphics, animations, and visual storytelling elements for news features, enterprise stories, and special editorial projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including designers, developers, editors, and reporters to transform complex ideas into accessible, visually compelling stories.
• Support the creation of short-form explainers, long-form features, and innovative storytelling formats.
• Help develop and maintain visual treatments that reflect a commitment to excellence, innovation, and brand consistency.
• Conceptualize and produce animations for interactive storytelling experiences.
• Ensure consistency of motion graphic storytelling aligned with the broader editorial vision and creative direction.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in motion graphics and animation stemming from an ad agency, in-house brand, or creative department.
• Strong portfolio showcasing motion design, animation, and digital storytelling.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Premiere, Illustrator, Photoshop).
• Experience working in deadline-driven environments with complex projects.
• Strong editorial sensibility and an understanding of visual journalism.
• Ability to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience working in a newsroom or editorial environment.
• Familiarity with 3D and/or real-time rendering software.
• Experience designing for homepage experiences or off-platform environments (social, mobile, etc.).
