*This role is exempt and operates under a hybrid schedule, with a minimum of 3 days in Pittsburgh, PA office required; however, flexibility to be in the office or on-site in other locations more frequently is expected.*

Market Research Manager

VisitPITTSBURGH is a tourism development organization dedicated to expanding the tourism economy across Allegheny County. The organization generates positive economic impact across the tourism verticals of business events, sports, and leisure travel. VisitPITTSBURGH achieves its goals, including ensuring the region of certain economic benefits, through the combined efforts of all team members throughout the organization.

The Market Research Manager reports to the Senior Director, Market Research and Analytics. This individual contributor role delivers essential business insights by gathering and analyzing data from market research and analytics to create actionable strategies.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in answering inquiries and fulfilling requests for research and analytics information from VisitPITTSBURGH leadership, board members, key constituents, and stakeholders, as directed.
  • Assists in creating and maintaining a research library by regularly collecting data related to the domestic leisure /international leisure and convention/ group meetings travel markets from various sources including internet searches, journal articles and industry newsletters.
  • Manages internal small scale primary research projects, including questionnaire creation, creating project timelines, data collection, data synthesis and presentation.
  • Presents leisure traveler updates at quarterly Marketing meetings.
  • Prepares monthly hotel KPIs and sales booking pace reports.
  • Extracts useful data and other valuable information from CRM.
  • Aids in the accuracy of the client database and runs ad hoc reports upon request.
  • Acts as the liaison for the research department and iDSS/Tempest (CRM), fielding questions about functionality and enhancement requests to ensure seamless integration of the CRM with other research tools and systems.
  • Maintains an understanding of business goals and operations and disseminates analytic insights on both an as needed, and proactive basis.
  • Analyzes strategic accounts for business and sports events to prioritize accounts based on the probability of conversion to confirmed business.
  • Communicates results and findings to senior management, key partner organizations, and board of directors, in digital and/or live format, as needed.
  • Collects data and runs event impact calculation (pre event) for all conventions, trade shows and sporting events booked through VisitPITTSBURGH and public events within the county.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Senior Director, Market Research and Analytics.

Skills & Specifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, or a similar discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a data-centric business environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, good storyteller
  • Outstanding analytical, organizational, and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of CRM database functionality is required, specific knowledge of IDSS system is desirable.
  • Able to present research findings and reports to internal and external audiences
  • Proficiency with Qualtrics online survey tool.
  • Proficient in translating business insights into comprehensible infographics and visual presentations
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, and Excel)
  • Individual must possess a valid U.S. Driver’s license and credentials for traveling by air both domestically and internationally
  • Willingness to occasionally work non-traditional hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
