Job Description – Data Governance Analyst

We're looking for a hands-on Data Governance Analyst to own and execute critical data governance initiatives. This role is not strategy-only—we already have a framework and direction in place. We need someone who thrives on execution, can define and document data relationships, and act as the bridge between business, analytics, and technical teams.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Define and document data relationships (e.g., customer, product, mastered customer fields), including data sources and dependencies.

  • Prioritize and formalize relationships between systems; establish logic and definitions for key data fields in partnership with technical teams.

  • Gather and document business and functional requirements; translate business needs into data requirements for stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain a customer/product master , including formatting standards, data definitions, and stakeholder alignment.

  • Partner with analytics teams as they build data marts and dashboards; help establish a centralized hub for business users to access analytics.

  • Own and maintain the data dictionary and data catalog ; ensure accuracy, usability, and adoption across teams.

  • Document and manage data lineage using tools such as Purview or Alation.

  • Support the buildout of the data governance pillar , ensuring consistency, traceability, and strong communication across the organization.

  • Act as the connector between the analysis pillar and business process pillar.

  • Free up developers by owning governance and documentation work so engineering can focus on coding.

  • Operate with a self-starter mentality , confidently defining data relationships and independently driving tasks to completion.

Must-Haves

  • 3–5 years of hands-on data governance experience ; this is an execution-focused role.

  • Experience with data dictionary and cataloging initiatives.

  • Experience creating and driving adoption of Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs) .

  • SQL skills : able to read queries, understand joins, and write basic queries.

  • Master Data Management (MDM) experience: ability to trace data across systems, understand system of record design, and align gold records across sources (e.g., Oracle, Salesforce).

  • Tools: Visio or Lucidchart , Purview or Alation .

  • Industry experience: Enterprise environments .

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management, comfortable bridging analytics and business processes.
