Job Description

Job Description

At Sage Bionetworks, we believe in the power of open science and interdisciplinary collaboration to advance human health. We work at the intersection of data, technology, and research, developing open, FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data resources that accelerate discovery. Our team includes scientists, engineers, project managers, ethicists, and data curators working together to make biomedical data more useful, transparent, and reusable.

We’re seeking a Biomedical Data Manager to support our growing portfolio of biomedical data coordination efforts. You will collaborate across teams to curate, organize, and annotate complex datasets, helping ensure data integrity, accessibility, and interoperability. If you thrive at the intersection of science and data—bridging technical workflows with community-driven science—we’d love to hear from you.

Job Summary

As a Professional Biomedical Data Manager, you will coordinate data management and curation activities that support discovery-driven science. You will help apply data models, metadata standards, and governance practices that make scientific data more reusable and transparent.

Key Responsibilities

Data Standards and Curation

  • Apply and contribute to standards for storing, describing, and sharing heterogeneous data, including clinical, multi-omic, imaging, and other biomedical data.

  • Support FAIR data curation and harmonization workflows using data capture and curation tooling developed at Sage or other program-agnostic tools for data tracking, curation, annotation, and metadata validation. Contribute feedback to the technical development team to improve these tools and workflows.

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of data and metadata across projects and datasets.

Collaboration and Coordination

  • Collaborate with bioinformatics engineers, software developers, project managers, and governance experts to align data and metadata management practices across programs.

  • Support consistent application of metadata templates, controlled vocabularies, and data models across projects.

  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure that scientific and technical teams share a common understanding of data structures and standards.

Community and Support

  • Onboard researchers and data contributors to tools and workflows for submitting and sharing data.

  • Support community engagement activities such as contributor onboarding sessions, documentation updates, and coordination of shared data resources.

  • Contribute to team discussions that advance open science and responsible data sharing practices.

Data Validation and Harmonization

  • Compile, clean, and validate data and metadata.

  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in scientific datasets.

  • Assist in preparing data summaries, documentation, and status reports to track progress against project milestones.

We’d Love to Hear from You If You
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., public health, neuroscience, genetics, informatics, or library science).

  • Have 2+ years of experience in data management, curation, or a related area.

  • Are familiar with biomedical data models and metadata management tools.

  • Have basic proficiency in R or Python and collaborative development systems such as git.

  • Have familiarity with or interest in knowledge graphs, semantic data modeling, or ontology-based annotation.

  • Have experience working in Agile environments, including participation in Scrum ceremonies such as sprint planning and retrospectives.

  • Work well in multidisciplinary teams and communicate clearly across scientific and technical audiences.

  • Bring strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Value inclusion, accessibility, and thoughtful collaboration in your work.

  • Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms is a plus.

Job Functions and Physical Requirements
